Deployment of autonomous forklifts using 5G

The project's objective is to test and develop the software, including its communication layer, for an autonomous forklift using 5G connectivity, to obtain a product ready for commercialisation. The final outcome will be the deployment of an autonomous forklift using a 5G network in an industrial plant.

The acceleration process aims to deploy task-assignment software and a remote safety system for autonomous forklifts, using 5G technology, within a real production process at one of the project partners. This deployment will validate the technology in real operating conditions at technology readiness level IX (TRL 9) and bring its development to its final form.

5G technology provides fast, reliable, high-capacity communication. It enables forklifts to communicate over the network with servers managing their work assignments, a remote safety system and a monitoring system.
